Green Sanctuary Committee

Authorization

The UUCR Board authorized a standing Green Sanctuary Committee in May 2005

and requested that a committee be formed and that they select a chair among the

members. The charter was approved by the UUCR Board in August 2005.

Goals

The purpose of the UUCR Green Sanctuary Committee is to actualize the seventh

principle, which affirms and promotes "Respect for the interdependent web of all

existence of which we are a part." To accomplish this the following goals are adopted:

1.      To build awareness of societal environmental issues.

2.      To generate commitment for personal lifestyle changes.

3.      To motivate UUs, individuals and organizations to community action on environmental issues.

4.      To build connections among spiritual practice, religious education and environmental consciousness.

5.      To build awareness of and rectify environmental injustice.
