Because March 20th is the Vernal Equinox, the beginning of Spring, and the official start of the sailing season, UUCR decided to hold a Sock Burning Ceremony to honor Neptune, the Roman God of the Sea, and Poseidon, the Greek God of the Sea, in the hope for a beautiful Spring and a smooth sailing season.
